Product Description

1. The MAX7219 is an integrated serial input/output common-cathode display driver that connects a microprocessor to an 8-digit 7-segment numeric LED display. It can also be connected to a bar-graph display or up to 64 individual LEDs.

2. It includes an on-chip B-type BCD decoder, a multi-channel scan loop, and a segment word.

3. A convenient four-wire serial interface can be connected to all common microprocessors. Each piece of data can be addressed without rewriting the entire display during updates. The MAX7219 also allows the user to choose whether or not to encode each piece of data.

4. The device features a low-power shutdown mode (150 μA), analog and digital brightness control, a scan-limit register that allows the user to display 1 to 8 digits of data, and a test mode that lights all LEDs.

5. Only 3 I/O ports are needed to drive one dot matrix. No flicker occurs when the dot matrix is displayed. Cascade connection is supported.

6. The module has input and output interfaces and supports multiple modules in cascade.

7. With 64 mounting holes (3 mm opening), a single module can drive an 8x8 common-cathode dot matrix.
